SKYCACHE AWARDS STAMP OF APPROVAL TO NETWORK APPLIANCE'S WEB CACHE PRODUCTS

SkyCache Selects the Market Leading NetCache Appliances as Premiere Beta Tester

June 29, 1998 - Laurel, MD - SkyCache, Inc., the pioneer in Internet satellite data delivery and Network Appliance™, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), the leading provider of dedicated data-access appliances, today announced SkyCache's first testing and compatibility partnership with a caching vendor. SkyCache will leverage Network Appliance's (NetApp®) high-performance NetCache™ Web caching appliances to deliver the highest performance and superior customer quality of service.

"NetApp's dedicated appliance approach proved to be the most complementary caching solution for our service at this time, and together we will provide our customers with the fastest access to global information," stated Doug Humphrey, president and CEO of SkyCache. "NetCache's proven track record of extraordinary speed, reliability and ease of management made NetApp the unquestionable choice for our first strategic cache vendor partnership."

The SkyCache service uses satellite broadcast technology to constantly load the most often requested Internet Web and news traffic directly into customer-side ICP-compliant caches. In addition, SkyCache uses reporting statistics from customers to build a large cache community.

The combination of SkyCache's satellite broadcast technology with the creation of a NetCache cluster, which includes fully integrated RAID and 99.99 percent availability - before failover - offers a superior solution to the traditional stand-alone or multi-tiered hierarchical cache.

"NetApp recognizes that SkyCache is the frontrunner in the broadcast satellite space. Its leading technology will minimize extraordinary bandwidth costs faced by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and large corporations," said Dan Warmenhoven, president and CEO of Network Appliance. "SkyCache is the ideal partner in creating a quality of service solution for all our customers."

Advantages of the SkyCache/NetApp Solution

ISPs and enterprises will realize reduced bandwidth and communications costs plus faster response times when the most popular, constantly updated Internet and news traffic is delivered via SkyCache's satellite broadcast service to NetCache appliances. End users reap faster response times since the most commonly requested Web pages are stored at local web cache servers.

NetApp has leveraged its track record in the dedicated network file server appliance - or "filer"- market to ensure the greatest degrees of reliability, security and ease of management. The company has integrated its state of art caching technologies with its proven technologies and partnerships from its filer business to offer the greatest price/performance benefit without sacrificing IT priorities crucial in production-class, revenue-generating environments.

SkyCache, by virtue of being a true broadcast mechanism to deliver data, also solves updating and communications problems across distributed caching systems implemented by Tier 1 ISPs and enterprises. Since all caches are constantly and directly refreshed with the most frequently accessed web pages via satellite, terrestrial leased line bandwidth is not consumed by cache communication and data updating, nor is it necessary to implement a multi-tiered hierarchical infrastructure.
