AGIS BENEFITS FROM GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT WITH SKYCACHE
Red Wings' Stanley Cup Victory Brings SkyCache Services to
AGIS
Laurel, MD, June 22, 1998 - AGIS and SkyCache, Inc. met today to
exchange high-tech services as well as corporate T-shirts and mugs in accordance with a
gentleman's agreement struck at the North American Network Operators Group (NANOG) meeting
in Detroit, Michigan, on June 9, 1998. At NANOG, Phillip J. Lawlor, President and CEO of
Dearborn, MI based AGIS, and Doug Humphrey, President and Founder of SkyCache, Inc. of
Laurel, MD, agreed to exchange high-tech services based upon the outcome of the Stanley
Cup finals between their respective hometown teams-the Detroit Red Wings and the
Washington Capitals. As stipulated by the terms of the agreement, the company with the
winning home team would receive a year of free, high-tech services as well as twenty
corporate T-shirts and mugs. "Our boys have made us proud," boasted Phil Lawlor,
"Not only have they allowed us to retain the Stanley Cup, they've also allowed us to
obtain the outstanding services of SkyCache."
"The SkyCache service revolutionizes the Internet by utilizing satellites
and caching technology to provide Web surfers with fresh data and fast access. This
caching technique is quite simply, elegant. Far more elegant than the performance of
Washington's hockey team during the Stanley Cup finals," stated Farooq Hussain,
Executive Vice President of Global and Multimedia Services at AGIS. In the spirit of
good-sportsmanship, AGIS has agreed to provide SkyCache with a free year of high-speed
Internet access despite the outcome of the series. "We feel that it is the least that
we could do," explained Phil Lawlor, "Making this gentleman's agreement was like
taking candy from a baby."
"The Capitals have had an excellent season this year and we will be
enthusiastically supporting them next season," Doug Humphrey said. "The coupling
of the AGIS facilities-based OC-48 network and the SkyCache service results in an
unparalleled powerplay providing an optimized backbone ideally suited to support the
next-generation of Internet applications."
AGIS, founded in 1994, is the world's first facilities-based Internet Service
