SKYCACHE NETWORK GOES LIVE IN EUROPE
RIPE 32, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, January 25, 1999: SkyCache, Inc.,
the world's premier satellite broadcast overlay network for the Internet, today announced
the official launch of its Release 1.0 cache turbocharging and Usenet News services in
Europe at the Regional Internet Registry for Europe (RIPE) meeting.
"With coverage over North America and Europe, SkyCache has taken the next step to
become a fully ubiquitous part of the Internet," stated Doug Humphrey, President/CEO
of SkyCache.
European trials started in December and involved twelve ISPs, including Cesnet (Czech
Republic), Euronet (Belgium), Mediaways (Germany), Tinet (Switzerland) and Wirehub
(Netherlands). Several ISPs have since signed on as customers. SkyCache coverage is
provided via GE Americom's GE-1E (Sirius II).
"The enthusiasm with which SkyCache service has been received is an endorsement to
the value provided. We are committed to providing a comprehensive offering that is
responsive to the international ISP community," stated Steve Sweeney, Vice President
of International Operations for SkyCache.
SkyCache Release 1.0 service provides cache turbocharging and a full Usenet News feed
via satellite broadcast, enabling ISPs and corporations to leverage existing bandwidth and
in many cases substantially improves web page response time.
