Haavard Nord (Troll Tech) : "We are strongly against software patents because they prevent competition and make life harder for small and medium businesses"

The idea behind software patents is to encourage and protect innovation in the software industry, which is good. However, as it has turned out in the United States, software patents have proven to be more harmful than useful to the industry and this is a heavily debated topic.

The European Union is about to lift the restriction on software patents in Europe. We are strongly against software patents because they prevent competition and make life harder for small and medium businesses.

Troll Tech has created the popular software development tool Qt and have companies like AT&T, Hewlett-Packard and IBM on the customer list. The Qt product is based on the innovative signal-slot technology for software companents and other software design principles not found in competing products. Troll Tech has never filed any patent. Our software is sufficiently protected by copyright law.

Haavard Nord,
CEO, Troll Tech
