Tatu Ylönen : "Innovation in information technology would be best
served without software patents"
"Software patents are harmful to the industry. They prevent innovation,
and make it very hard for small companies to enter the market.
Any large software package is likely to infringe dozens of software
patents held by companies such as IBM or Lucent. It is very hard
for a software company to sue one of the large players for infringement.
The mere cost of the ligitation is often prohibitive, not to
mention the risk of getting countersued. Innovation in information
technology would be best served without software patents," says
Tatu Ylönen, Founder and CEO of SSH Communications Security Ltd,
and author of the popular SSH (Secure Shell) software.
