All satellites now
undergoing on-orbit testing
DULLES, VA December 30, 1997 – ORBCOMM Global,
L.P. (ORBCOMM), the first provider of commercial global
low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite data and messaging
communications services, today announced that its Network
Control Center has established ground communication with all
eight new satellites that were launched on December 23
aboard an Orbital Sciences Corporation Pegasus® XL
rocket. The eighth satellite appears to be healthy and is
currently undergoing initial check-out.
"We are happy to have established communication with the
remaining satellite," said Alan Parker, ORBCOMM president
and CEO. "Following comprehensive testing, we plan to have a
working constellation of ten satellites. Our success this
week is a testament to the technical know-how and commitment
of the ORBCOMM and Orbital engineers, many of whom worked
through the holidays to establish communication and begin
testing these satellites."
