SkyCache Partners with Intelligent Devices for Speed, Efficiency

Up to 45 Mbps satellite broadcast for IP video, web, software delivery

LAUREL, Md., September 14, 1999 – SkyCache, Inc., the world's premier global datacasting company, has signed an agreement with Intelligent Devices, Inc., (IDI) to deploy IDI’s digital video broadcast (DVB)-compliant Forte® gateways and IP-Companion® receivers as the delivery platform for SkyCache’s innovative Internet satellite broadcast network.

SkyCache will use IDI’s broadband Internet Protocol (IP) datacasting technology to deliver rich Internet content, such as high-quality streaming video, web pages, and software, faster and more efficiently to Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and corporations worldwide. By year’s end, SkyCache intends to have increased its broadcast capacity to T3 speeds -- up to 45 megabits per second – to all of its customers in Europe and the United States. Currently, SkyCache provides services to over 150 locations worldwide, representing 3 million Internet users.

"Our global broadcast network has the potential to improve the ‘Internet Experience’ dramatically for millions of ISP customers around the world," said SkyCache Founder and CEO Doug Humphrey.

"We are delighted to have found a partner that will help us make this happen. IDI’s broadband IP solutions offer superior quality and high-speed — both of which are essential to us."

Providing a highly unique, global overlay network for satellite broadcast of Internet content and streaming media, SkyCache uses high-speed, satellite technology to deliver Web content, Usenet news, IP audio/video, FTP mirroring and Web site replication services to more than 100 North American and European enterprises. IDI’s DVB-compliant Forte® and IP-Companion® products are capable of delivering both IP multicast and unicast data and will be co-located at SkyCache facilities in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

"To meet their customers’ ever-increasing demand for more speed, SkyCache needed a partner that could deliver a solid solution today, while positioning them well for their explosive growth of bandwidth and provisioning of services," said IDI President and CEO Mitch Robinson.

"To that end, our Forte® and IP-Companion® products accomplish that goal, offering SkyCache a comprehensive, end-to-end solution. We’re looking forward to working with SkyCache in delivering this leading-edge and exciting service."
