SKYCACHE ANNOUNCES COMAPTIBILITY WITH CACHEFLOW PRODUCT FAMILY
New Level of Efficiency For ISPs and Backbone Providers
Laurel, MD (November 9, 1998) - SkyCache Inc., the world's premier
high-speed datacasting company, today announced that CacheFlow Inc.'s family of
industry-leading network caching appliances is certified SkyCache Compatible. Customers
will now be able to deploy the industry's highest performing cache appliances in
conjunction with the SkyCache service to improve the speed, reliability, scalability, and
the bandwidth usage of their networks.
CacheFlow eliminates the extreme delay associated with Web page downloads. The
company's network caching appliances, deployed at the edges of the network, speed
information to users while reducing unnecessary network traffic. SkyCache provides an
innovative satellite-based service for delivering updated Web content to CacheFlow
appliances.
"A New Level Of Efficiency"
"CacheFlow's unique focus on eliminating the World Wide Wait delivers tremendous
value for ISPs, backbone providers and enterprises," says Doug Humphrey, president
and CEO of SkyCache. "The combination of CacheFlow's appliances and SkyCache's
cost-effective broadcast service will bring a new level of efficiency for ISP
networks."
"SkyCache is delivering an innovative service at a time of great industry
change," said Kelly Herrell, vice president of Marketing for CacheFlow. "As the
market continues its rapid adoption of caching appliances, we look forward to working with
SkyCache to deliver cost-effective solutions to our shared customers."
How the Solution Works
Internet access providers will continue to deploy CacheFlow appliances at
Points-Of-Presence (POPs). Web data is delivered via SkyCaches's satellite broadcast
service to the CacheFlow appliances. As a result, end users will experience swift delivery
of Web pages since they are cached close to users at the edges of the network, and access
providers will leverage the cost-effective SkyCache service to populate the cache.
SkyCache, through a combination of its patent-pending Reactive Caching system
and cache pre-population, provides superior performance by supplementing a stand-alone
cache with high-quality data delivered by satellite broadcast technology. The SkyCache
Release 1.0 cache turbo-charging service enables ISPs to add more customers to existing
leased line capacity and deliver substantially faster web page response times in many
cases
Powered by the patent pending CacheOS, CacheFlow products are appliances
specifically architected for network caching. As dedicated devices, they provide the
industry's leading cache performance in highly reliable rack-mounted hardware
configurations. Each product in the CacheFlow line is designed to satisfy different
network needs, such as differences in workload, scalability and high-availability
requirements. CacheFlow products install in minutes, are self-tuning, and require zero
administration.
